The Bjorklund family has received word that Augusta Bjorklund is on her way from Norway to join them in North Dakota. I've read the entire series and was dissapointed in this last book. I thought the story line was a little weak and was not a believablesituation. It did not have the depth of most of the other books. Since it was supposedly the last book of the series; I would of liked to see more of a conclusion for all the characters instead of just leaving the characters and their situations dangling. I'm sort of put off by the author for not bringing the stories and characters to more of a conclusion - I believe that as a reader of the books and the investment of my time and money the author owes that to the reader....especially after investing in 6 of her books!! Otherwise I enjoyed the series up to the ending. This author writes a lot of series - dont know if I'll invest my time and money again. it appears to me the author is more interested in selling a book than bringing you a good story.

I love all of Lauraine Snelling's books. This was another good one! I must confess, I did sneak ahead a little at times to see what was happening with Augusta more times, and speeding through times at the Bjorklands home in Blessing.
I'd like a complete book about Augusta's life, afterwards.

Well, the last book of the Red River of the North series, Blessing in Disquise, was so very good!! I was pretty disappointed at the quick way it ended it was going along there at a nice pace not rushed or anything, then all of a sudden, it was on the last page! But all and all, very interesting, very suspenseful in some areas! I think the author could have mentioned more about what would be happening to the other characters in the future, but sadly she didn't. I highly recommend this series!
Rather than review each book, as I have to this point, let me just say...I have enjoyed the entire series and really appreciate Lauraine Snelling's writing style. It has been a pleasure getting to know the characters of this rugged land.
I look forward to reading more about the extended family in additional series. There is often much sadness, but 'joy comes in the morning'. The strong thread of faith that runs consistently throughout these writings is of particular importance to me. All in all, a wholesome, educational & enjoyable read.
This story is about two brothers and their wives who immigrate to the Dakota Territory from Norway in 1880. I believe the time period was well researched and the story reasonable and entertaining. The author uses the story to profess her Christian beliefs by having the characters in the story quote scripture and expressions of faith, which is probably typical of the people in that era. This family experiences every sort of mishap as they develop their homestead and soon prosper on the Red River. The characters are well developed and probably typical of Europeans of that era. I enjoyed the series.
Was disappointed by the last book in the series. There are two many plot points from previous books that are left unfinished. The author also brought in more new characters in this book and it didn't seem that enough time was given for their development. Really the series needs one more book to tie up all the loose ends from the main characters.
Overall the series was great and I would highly recommend it.
Nice continuation of this series. I totally enjoyed this series although it has become predictable. When you think of following a family through their development it would commonly become somewhat predictable. The enjoyment to me comes from this family overcoming tragedy, taking gambles to improve their futures for themselves and their families future, and their always putting others welfare in utmost importance. It was probably not unheard of for small communities to function as one family. This is sorely missing in todays society. I would recommend this series if you enjoy reading families centered around faith, loyalty to community, and perseverance.
