“You will always be a monster - there is no turning back from it. But what kind of monster you become is entirely up to you.” ― Julie Kagawa, The Eternity Cure
The angsty story of the beautiful and submissive Rose and the dominant and sadistic Thorne continues in this second installment as William Thorne convinces himself to move on from this seemingly doomed relationship. He fights his urge to be with Rose at every turn and is determined to put her behind him in search of a new personal assistant to fulfill his every salacious need.
Obsessed with confessing the secrets of his own marred past, William desperately grasps for the balance that once kept him grounded. He yearns for the controlled way of life that satisfied him professionally, personally, and sexually long before the arrival of Rose.
But when an unforeseeable event occurs, everything William Thorne has vowed to do is again thrown into disharmony. Rose and William teeter precariously to amend their dark secrets. Will they continue to stumble and fall or can the light of love show them both happiness?
THORNE Rose Dark Secret Book 2 edition by RB O'Brien Romance eBooks
Ms. O'Brien knocked another grand slam right over the Big Green Monster and clean out of the park. Lord, that ball probably landed somewhere in western Canada. Many of us have long awaited this second installment, and I was excited to download and read this continuation on the complicated tale of William and Rose. William remains tormented by guilt of his past, an incident we learn happened when he was a teen, an incident that involved Rose in more ways than he knew until recently. He finds himself mired in a confusing whirlwind, a perfect storm of desire, of love, and of guilt and self-loathing for the events of a long-ago day. He sees himself as a monster. Is he? This is properly for the reader to decide. Can he come to peace with this whirlwind, and can he and Rose salvage beauty from the ashes left to us in "Rose's Dark Contract?" Well, that was for Ms. O'Brien to decide, and for the reader to learn. For my part, I was gripped by the tale, and by the coming-of-age story I think might be coalescing around both characters. I can't wait for Part III to come out!LXB

THORNE Rose Dark Secret Book 2 edition by RB O'Brien Romance eBooks Reviews
WOW, WOW, WOW....I literally could not put this book down until the end. RB is an exceptional writer who pulls you in from the beginning until the end and leaves you wanting more. William is a love hate kind of relationship that makes you want to scream at him yet give him all the love you can. Rose never gave up in what she wanted and knows how to get under Williams skin to make him loosen up.
This is one read you cannot pass up after you read book 1. Cant wait for book 3.
Author R.B. O'Brien takes us back to the Thorne trilogy with this second installment. We see that William Thorne is torn between his feelings for Rose (Victoria in the first book) and his fight against the tobacco company as well as his refusal to see his sick mother. As Rose works her way back into his life even if just for a little she brings out real feelings of love out of Throne but he fights it every step of the way except for the night that he brings Rose her grandfathers piano. R.B. O'Brien really ups the sensuality of Rose and Throns's relationship in this book and I do highly recommend it.
R.B. O'Brien' s next installment in the Thorne Series is another book you will not be able to put down. In this book William is determined to do the right thing with the life long secret that has torn a whole in his plans for Rose. Pushing her out of his life is the only way he can keep her safe. Not just from him but from the monster he believes he is. However, Rose has already lost her heart to William and is prepared to fight to keep him in her life. She just needs William to tell her what happened all those years ago. After Rose is in an accident William realizes how Rose has crept quietly into his heart. Knowing another man has fallen for Rose helps William see what he was about to throw away. But just like any good romance the plot takes another twist when Williams mother dies.
I look forward to reading the last book in the series, not just to find out what happens, but to lose myself in the wicked love scenes the author creates for Rose and William. Thank you R.B for another page turning book. I would highly recommend this book.
Rose and William are exceptionally engaged lovers, antagonists, dom sub that are both scared to find what each of them truly want. In "Rose's Secret" the needs of two humans that are impossibly frustrating because of their failures to communicate effectively are well understood by the reader due to RB's skilled and amazing descriptions of what are extraordinary emotions. Their mutual inability to admit and articulate their feelings for one another are a constant theme. Mingled with hidden facts of their histories the story follows the tussle both emotionally and physically until Rose allows her to admit her true feelings. William refuses to allow himself to embrace everything he truly wants. The story is a continuing series of frustration intertwined with an emotional, sensuous story.
Although I took a long time to read this it is a book that you won't want to put it down. Everything I've read that RB has written sets the protagonists and lovers in lives that generate excitement, angst and fascinating challenges.
I have yet to read anything by this author that I have not loved. Ms. O'Brien has a beautiful and poetic way of drawing the reader in for a whirlwind tale of love, whether the characters know it, admit it, or not. Denial, guilt, passion... plus more, take part in this second installment of Thorne.
Piece by piece, more of William and Rose are revealed. Who, what, why... we learn so much more. I had a difficult time putting this book down even though I had to because, you know, real life just had to interrupt my reading pleasure. And let me tell you, regardless of anything that happened in this book, it was a pleasure to read this gripping story. I loved this one so much more than the first book (and I absolutely LOVED that one, so that should tell you something).
The characters still have their flaws, but that is what allowed me to connect with them. They were real. They represented the good and the bad, the craving and desire and self-denial, the hate and love we all experience in life.
I have a thing for alpha men. Those men that just NEED to have control in every aspect of their lives. Their drive for perfection and desire for control is what makes me love them so much more when their walls begin to crumble for that one person who should be off limits, is off limits, but darn it they just can't stay away. This story has it. I felt it all. Every single emotion I felt. Not just mentally, but physically, and THAT is what makes this particular story so, well, perfect.
Absolutely wonderful job, Ms. O'Brien. Well written, deep, multi-dimensional characters. A gripping storyline that was executed perfectly. I look forward to the next piece to this tale.
